Campus clown sightings unfounded

Campus clown sightings unfounded

10/03/2016

Widespread rumors of a suspicious person dressed as a clown on the SUNY Cortland campus Sunday night have not been substantiated, and no student appears to have been threatened or harmed. Despite social media claims to the contrary, SUNY Cortland was never on lockdown and no student was ever in danger.

Extensive searching and canvassing by University Police and Cortland Police Late Sunday and early today did not find any suspect. Police were also unable to locate any first-person witnesses who saw anyone dressed as a clown. A review of the campus’ video surveillance system did not show any suspicious person on campus during the time of the sighting.

Students who see anyone suspicious on campus are urged to contact University Police immediately at 607-753-2111. They should not confront the person in any way.
