History

Smith Tower was built in 1972. The most recent renovation occurred in 2010.

Namesake

Smith Tower is named to honor SUNY Cortland past President Donnal V. Smith, who became president in 1943. He led the college for 15 years and provided the vision for unprecedented growth in faculty, student body and facilities at SUNY Cortland.

Function

Each tower features four-person and six-person suites. Four-person suites have two bedrooms, a bathroom and a lounge. Six-person suites have three bedrooms and a larger bathroom and lounge. Suites in these building are open to upper-class and new students.
