Media Services
Members of the news media are strongly encouraged to contact the Communications Office staff to assist them in their interactions with the SUNY Cortland campus community. We will provide news tips and suggest story ideas; coordinate requests for faculty and staff expertise/interviews; share background and historical information; assist with requests for photos and digital images; and disseminate information about upcoming events.
News Media on Campus
We encourage news media to visit SUNY Cortland. However, to ensure the privacy of our students, faculty, staff and guests, we request that all news media contact the communications director or associate director prior to visiting campus. If we know you are coming, we can notify the University Police Department (UPD) and provide you with the most convenient parking to maximize your time. In almost all cases, student and faculty interviews and other taping/photography are possible. Most of the time, no escort is needed.
Interviews
While SUNY Cortland faculty members are encouraged to respond to requests from the media regarding their research, scholarship and/or professional expertise, you may find it helpful to contact the communications staff for additional background, current or more efficient contact information, and alternative experts if your first choice is unavailable. We can also assist in making arrangements for on-campus interviews and photographs.
College Data
If you are seeking SUNY Cortland statistical data or information on institutional policies, please contact the communications staff. As a starting point, some general information can be found on the SUNY Cortland Facts/Figures link.
Campus Emergencies
In the event of an emergency at SUNY Cortland, the news media should contact the Communications Office for information as access to portions of the campus and/or its employees may be restricted in order to provide a safe and secure environment. Communications staff will serve as the official link between the College and the media to protect the privacy rights of our students, faculty, staff and guests; to meet the expectations of our students that their residence hall, dining and recreation areas are not available to the public; and to secure the right of students, faculty, staff and guests to provide or deny permission before being filmed or photographed.
Bulletin
The Bulletin, a bi-weekly e-newsletter produced by the Communications Office at SUNY Cortland, contains official College announcements, news reports and notices of campus events. The Bulletin is published every other Tuesday during the academic year, except during fall and spring breaks and winter session. Members of the media who wish to receive The Bulletin may contact Christina DiGiusto at christina.digiusto@cortland.edu.
