Christopher Gascón

Christopher Gascón, Modern Languages Department, has been invited by publisher Gale Cengage to produce an installment of their Drama Criticism series on the play “Fuenteovejuna (1619), by Spanish playwright Lope de Vega. “Fuenteovejuna” is currently the most performed, read and studied play of the Spanish baroque period. Drama Criticism is a resource for scholars; the entry will include a study of the author and the play, reprints of the most important research on the work, and an annotated bibliography of additional key criticism of the drama. 

Evan Faulkenbury

Evan Faulkenbury, History Department, co-edited a book titled Teaching Public History that was recently published by UNC Press. 

Mike Fusilli

Mike Fusilli, Development Office, a major gift officer and a volunteer coach for SUNY Cortland’s wrestling team, was inducted into the upstate New York chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Fusilli helped lead Ithaca College to two national titles during his collegiate wrestling career and was an NCAA Div. III individual national champion in 1990. He previously served as head coach at Binghamton University and has prior assistant coaching experience at Ithaca College and North Carolina University.

Eric Edlund

Eric Edlund, Physics Department, gave a talk at Colgate University on Nov. 15 titled “A simplified analysis of orbital interception and rendezvous” which was based on his 2021 paper in the American Journal of Physics.

Lindsey Darvin

Lindsey Darvin, Sport Management Department, now serves on the Women in Esports Steering Committee with the Pittsburgh Knights, an esports organization sponsored by PNC, the Pittsburgh Stealers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The first roundtable has been released, with others to follow. Also, Darvin’s paper was accepted by Sustainability Science and published online Oct. 20. It is titled “Mass-participant sport events and sustainable development: gender, social bonding, and connectedness to nature as predictors of socially and environmentally responsible behavior intentions.”

Robert Spitzer

Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, presented a paper titled, “The Bush Presidency and the Unitary Executive” at a conference on the presidency of the George W. Bush administration held at Hofstra University from March 24-26. The conference brought together presidency scholars, journalists and former members of the administration to analyze the second Bush presidency.

Brian Barrett

Brian Barrett, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had his article titled “Towards a realist sociology of education: A polyphonic review essay” published in the Educational Theory, Volume 67, Issue 2. The article was co-authored with Michael Grenfell from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, Susan Hood from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, and Dan Schubert from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.

Joshua A. Peck and Claire Toal

Joshua A. Peck, Psychology Department, and his undergraduate research assistant Claire Toal were selected as Cortland delegates to represent SUNY Cortland at the SUNY-wide Innovative Exploration Forum: Undergraduate Research in New York State’s Public Higher Education System in Albany. The conference is designed to bring together some of SUNY’s most talented undergraduate scholars with SUNY administration officials and members of the New York state legislative delegation and their office staff. Peck and Toal will present to members of the state legislature and SUNY administrators on how Environmental Enrichment reduces stress-induced relapse in ethanol-addicted rats.

Bridget Hier

Bridget Hier, Psychology Department, had her research article titled “Effects of the Good Behavior Game on Students’ Academic Engagement in Remote Classrooms During the Covid-19 Pandemic” published in the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions.  

Tiantian Zheng

Tiantian Zheng, Sociology/Anthropology Department, was invited by NBC News to comment on the “masculinity problem” facing boys in China. The NBC news article that quoted her comments was posted online on Jan. 9.
