Susan Wilson
Susan Wilson, Recreation, Parks and Leisure Studies Department, has received, via Cornell University and through the New York State Compact via Washington Campus Compact, funding for eight intern service slots. Her proposal is titled “Students in Service AmeriCorps Program.” Interns will receive $1,200 upon completion of internship or service.
Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, is co-author of the just-published eighth edition of We The People: An Introduction to American Government. Published by W.W. Norton, the book is an analytic examination of the American governing system. The book’s co-authors include Benjamin Ginsberg, Johns Hopkins University; Theodore J. Lowi, Cornell University; and Margaret Weir, University of California, Berkeley.

Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, presented “The Law and Politics of Gun Control after Tucson” at the 6th Annual Harry Frank Guggenheim Symposium on Crime in America on “Law and Disorder: Facing the Legal and Economic Challenges to American Criminal Justice.” It was held Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, New York City.
Bonni C. Hodges
Bonni C. Hodges, Health Department, has been appointed to the CNY Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC) Cortland/Cayuga/Seneca Regional Advisory Council. The council encompasses representatives from healthcare, education, government, business and not-for-profit groups. The council collaborates with CNYAHEC to identify priorities and strategies for regional healthcare workforce development.

Barbara Wisch, Art and Art History Department, had an article accepted by the Memoirs of the American Academy in Rome. The article, titled “The Matrix: Le sette chiese di Roma of 1575 and the Image of Pilgrimage,” will appear in issue 56, 2011.
Mechthild Nagel
Mechthild Nagel, Philosophy Department and Center for Gender and Intercultural Studies (CGIS), gave an invited talk for a seminar addressing Ph.D. candidates in the humanities on Feb. 16 at Syracuse University. The talk, titled “Unlocking Open Access: Shifting Paradigms in Academic Publication,” discussed the success of Wagadu: A Journal of Transnational Women’s and Gender Studies, which is supported by SUNY Cortland and housed in CGIS.
Charles Heasley and Jeremiah Donovan
Charles Heasley and Jeremiah Donovan, Art and Art History Department, were invited to exhibit their artwork in Jingdezhen, China, as part of the 2010 West Meets East Invitational Exhibition. This international exhibition included four SUNY Cortland students, Christine Brown, Leah Fries, Carolyn Furlong, and Xena Holzapfel, as well as regional students from Jingdezhen and professional artists from Shanghai and Beijing. Photographs of the exhibited work were included in a catalog produced for the exhibition, which opened June 10 at the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Museum.

Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, wrote an article for the The Huffington Post titled “Campuses Just Say ‘No’ to Guns” that appeared for the week of Feb. 28 about current efforts around the country to allow faculty and students to carry handguns on college campuses. Spitzer is a regular contributor to Huffington.
Ute Ritz-Deutch
Ute Ritz-Deutch, History Department, presented “Victimhood and Memory: Danube Swabians and the Ethnic Cleansing Campaigns in Yugoslavia, 1944-1948” at the Wayles Browne Slavic Studies Symposium on Feb. 26 at the A.D. White House at Cornell University. The symposium was held in honor of Browne, who is a linguist at Cornell and longtime human rights activist.

Barrett, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, is acknowledged in Knowledge, Pedagogy and Society: International Perspectives on Basil Bernstein's Sociology of Education, Routledge, 2010, edited by D. Frandji & P. Vitale, for his translation and editorial work on 10 chapters by authors whose first language is not English.
