Federal Direct Loan – Students may be offered Federal Direct Subsidized and/or Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, if eligible. If a parent plans to apply for a Parent PLUS Loan for the entire academic year (summer, fall and spring), please communicate with the financial aid office to discuss what amount is needed for each semester. Private/Alternative Loan – Students or parents can apply for a private/alternative loan through a bank or lender of their choosing. Maximum loan amount will be based on summer cost of attendance minus other financial aid received.
Once approved, the lender will send the information to SUNY Cortland. For a list of lenders based on historical lending with our students, please look at a helpful tool called ELM Select.
