Tim Delaune

Tim Delaune, Political Science Department, presented preliminary research on the concept of dignity in the jurisprudence of Clarence Thomas at the annual Western Political Science Association Meeting held April 13-15 in Vancouver, British Columbia. He serves as the College's pre-law adviser.

Hugh Anderson

Hugh Anderson, International Programs Office, will present “Preparing Students to Study Abroad More Sustainably” on Oct. 5 at the Association of International Educators (NAFSA) All-Region Summit.

Jerome O'Callaghan

Jerome O'Callaghan, associate dean of arts and sciences, recently had his review of Corey Brettschneider’s new volume, When the State Speaks, What Should It Say? published in the Law and Politics Book Review, (LPBR) Volume 22, #11. The LPBR is an electronic publication of the American Political Science Association, distributed to 1,300 subscribers in 39 countries. Reviews are available online at www.lpbr.net.

Jordan Kobritz

Jordan Kobritz, Sport Management Department, gave a presentation to a group of 30 high school students at the New York Times Pre-Collegiate Weekend Course, “Sports Management and Sports Media” on Nov. 21 in New York City.  The title of the presentation was, “The Ins and Outs of Owning a Professional Sports Team.”

Mechthild Nagel

Mechthild Nagel, Philosophy and Africana Studies departments and Center for Gender and Intercultural Studies, had her article, “Gender and the Law,” published in the current issue of Journal of Research in Gender Studies. The article is based on a keynote that she gave in Bucharest for a gender conference last spring, which was chaired by the journal’s editor, Ramona Mihaila.

Jeremy Jimenez

Jeremy Jimenez, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had an essay advocating for indigenous land management in a climate changing world published in Resilence.org

Chris McRoberts

Chris McRoberts, Geology Department, co-presented a paper with undergraduate student Carolyn Furlong, titled “Commensal Endolithic Boring Traces on Spiriferid Hosts from the Middle Devonian of Central New York,” at the combined Northeast/Northcentral regional meeting of the Geological Society of America held March 20-22 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Kevin Dames

Kevin Dames, Kinesiology Department, and collaborators had their article, “Positive Impacts of a University Walking Program: A Case Study” published in the Journal of Physical Activity Research. Also, Dames and coauthors from the University of Northern Colorado had their article titled “Obese Adults Walk Differently in Shoes than While Barefoot” published in the journal Gait & Posture.

John Suarez

John Suarez, Institute for Civic Engagement and coordinator for the Service-Learning Office, learned that the appendix of the SUNY Faculty Senate’s upcoming report on service-learning in the SUNY system will include a sample service-learning reflection assignment from SUNY Cortland’s Service-Learning Manual.  The manual, written by Suarez in 2014 for SUNY Cortland faculty, can be found online.

Henry Steck

Henry Steck, Political Science Department, delivered the keynote address at the 69th annual conference of the New York State Political Science Association held April 10-11 at State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. The title of his presentation was “Teaching Students About Democracy.” He also presented on a panel: “Diverse Perspectives on Democracy: Suggestions for a Syllabus.”
