Jen Drake
Jen Drake, The Learning Center, is co-founder and interim director of the Sharing Technology and Academic Resources-New York (STAR-NY) Consortium. She has been invited to present at the 2021 Association of Colleges for Tutoring and Learning Assistance virtual conference. Her session, Building an Online Tutoring Consortium from the Ground Up: Development of the STAR-NY Consortium, will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 23.

Kati Ahern, English Department in Professional Writing and Rhetoric, had her book chapter, “Soundscapes: Rhetorical Entwinements for Composing Sound in Four Dimensions,” published by Intermezzo in an ebook called Tuning in to Soundwriting.
Thomas S. Hischak
Thomas S. Hischak, Performing Arts Department, has signed a contract with Rowman & Littlefield to publish his book, The 100 Greatest American Plays. Rowman recently released Hischak’s The Encyclopedia of Film Composers, the first comprehensive guide to the life and work of 252 international movie soundtrack composers.
Erik Lind
Erik Lind, Kinesiology Department, presented at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) regional meeting Nov. 3 and 4 in Harrisburg, Pa. The research, titled “Heart Rate, Perceived Exertion and Speech Characteristics across Cycling Exercise Intensity Levels,” was co-authored by Communication Disorders and Science graduate student Sarah E. Fuller ’17, Associate Dean of the School of Professional Studies Eileen Gravani, and Assistant Professor of Kinesiology Kevin D. Dames.
Alexandru Balas
Alexandru Balas, International Studies Program and Clark Center for International Education, recently had his book, Peace Operations, published by Polity Press. The book, in its 2nd edition, is co-authored with Paul F. Diehl.

- Traces the historical development of peace operations from their origins in the early 20th century through the development of modern peace building missions and multiple simultaneous peace operations.
- Tracks changes over time in the size, mission and organization of peace operations.
- Analyses different organizational, financial, and troop provisions for peace operations, as well as assessing alternatives.
- Lays out criteria for evaluating peace operations and details the conditions under which such operations are successful.
Cynthia Benton
Cynthia Benton, Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department, presented her paper, “The Role of Teacher Gender in Professionalization, Curriculum and Instruction and Student Achievement in Elementary School,” at the 2012 American Institute of Higher Education’s International Conference held March 7-9 in Williamsburg, Va.
David A. Kilpatrick
David A. Kilpatrick, professor emeritus of psychology, presented an invited address at University of California, Los Angeles at the International Dyslexia Association–Los Angeles Branch on Saturday, March 5. His topic was “Boosting Reading Skills in Struggling Readers.” This trip provided Kilpatrick ’82 and his wife Andrea Belaskas Kilpatrick '83 with the opportunity to spend an evening with David’s Cortland roommate Timothy Shanahan ’83, a professor of philosophy of science at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles.
Seth N. Asumah
Seth N. Asumah, Africana Studies and Political Science departments, recently was informed by SUNY Oneonta that he has been selected as one of SUNY Oneonta’s Alumni of Distinction. The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association bestows this honor upon its most inspirational and accomplished graduates. Nominations are assessed and approved by the Alumni of Distinction Committee. Asumah will officially be recognized during SUNY Oneonta’s Red Day Anniversary Celebration on Sept. 2. Asumah earned his baccalaureate degree in 1982 from SUNY Oneonta. He received his MPA and doctorate from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa.
