Gregory D. Phelan
Gregory D. Phelan, Chemistry Department, had his paper, “Properties and Structure of Two Fluorinated 1,10-phenanthrolines,” accepted for publication later this year in the peer-reviewed Journal of Fluorine Chemistry. Also, Phelan had his 15th United States Patent issued on Feb. 10. The patent, 8,952,102, is titled “Alkyl ether compositions and methods of use.”
Jaclyn Lawrence ’12
Jaclyn Lawrence ’12, Athletics Department, was invited to participate in the Syracuse Crunch Women in Sports Panel held Friday, March 31 at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown. The event was held prior to the Crunch game.
Panelists also included Syracuse Crunch Vice President of Communications and Digital Media Megan Cahill, American Hockey League Vice President of Hockey Operations Haley Moore, Learfield Syracuse Sports Properties Manager of Partnership Services Ally McConaughy and New York Islanders Community Relations Manager Jackie Decker.
Jennifer Olin
Jennifer Olin, University Police Department, was named a 2014 Recognition Award recipient by the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation and Mothers Against Drunk Driving New York State (MADD). Olin is trained in traffic safety related courses to recognize the effects of alcohol and drugs on the human body and in operational procedures, including Drug Recognition Expert, Breath Analysis Operator and Standard Field Sobriety Test. Also, she is on the State of New York Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Program – Police Traffic Services. She was nominated as a dedicated officer who has had success in reducing impaired driving her community.

Szilvia Kadas, Art and Art History Department, participated in the Arts Letters & Number Summer Artist Residency Program in Averill Park, N.Y., and had a group exhibition at the end of her artist residency program on Aug. 13.
Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, spoke to the Monroe County Bar Association on “Gun Violence—What to Do” on March 21 in Rochester, N.Y.
Charee’ Grover
Charee’ Grover, residence hall director for Alger Hall, participated in the Association of College and Personnel Administrators (ACPA) Conference held March 26-30 in Baltimore, Md. Grover serves on the Commission for Faith, Spirituality, Religion and Meaning as a directorate member and will serve on that commission until 2013.
Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, is the author of an article titled “One Gun Policy Idea We Can Agree On: Magazine Regulation,” posted last month on Second Thoughts, a website on gun policy of the Center for Firearms Law at Duke University.
John C. Hartsock
John C. Hartsock, Communication and Media Studies Department, has had one of his books selected to be issued as an audiobook. Redwood Audiobooks, a leading publisher of audiobooks, has licensed Hartsock’s award-winning Seasons of a Finger Lakes Winery, published by Cornell University Press, for conversion to audio. The book was honored with a First-Place Gourmand Award for wine writing in Paris, France in 2012, and was a runner-up for a Roederer Award in London later that year. The book recounts the seasonal passage of making wine at Long Point Winery on Cayuga Lake, which is owned by Gary and Rosemary Barletta of Cortland, N.Y. Moriarty Voiceovers has been engaged by Redwood to provide the audio reading.

Lindsey Darvin, Sport Management Department, was featured in a State of Sport Management podcast, in which she discussed a viral tweet about Alabama running back honoring U.S. Women’s National Team Member Megan Rapinoe. The tweet received 19,400 likes and 1 million impressions.
Tadayuki Suzuki
Tadayuki Suzuki, Literacy Department, recently had his article, “Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass Doors: Exploring the 2020 Rainbow List,” published in Children and Libraries: The Journal of the Association for Library Service to Children. It was coauthored with Darryn Diuguid of McKendree University and Barbara Ward from the University of New Orleans.
