Rhiannon Maton, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, recently co-edited a special issue on education labor movements across the Americas for Critical Education journal. The issue is the fourth part of the “Contemporary Educator Movements: Transforming Unions, Schools and Society” special series that Maton co-edits for the same journal.
Li Jin
Li Jin, Geology Department, co-authored two papers recently published in the journals Water and in Environmental Monitoring and Assessment. Both papers are part of REACH, a global research program to improve water security for the poor. The first paper, “Multibranch modelling of flow and water quality in the Dhaka River System, Bangladesh: Impacts of future development plans and climate change” was published in Water. The second paper, “Evaluating the effects of geochemical and anthropogenic factors on the concentration and treatability of heavy metals in Awash River and Lake Beseka, Ethiopia: Arsenic and Molybdenum issues,” was published in Environmental Monitoring and Assessment.

Alexis Blavos, Health Department, and colleagues had an article titled “Politics Spread COVID: Developing a Public Health Response” published in August in Health Promotion Practice.
Kathleen A. Lawrence
Kathleen A. Lawrence, Communication Studies Department, just received word that her 5-7-5 poem “Fresh Squeezed Juice” was accepted for publication by the online journal Haikuniverse as one of the featured poems on the theme of Valentine's Day. Her triptych poem “Always Blue Cops” was published in the Spring 2018 issue of Rosebud Magazine. Her speculative poem “Cinderella Continued” appeared in Star*Line, Issue 41.1, the print journal of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association (SFPA). In addition, she recently learned that her poem “Just Rosie,” published in Eye to the Telescope in 2017, has also been nominated for a 2017 Rhysling Award from the SFPA, along with the Pushcart Prize for 2017.
Gokhan Savas
Gokhan Savas, visiting assistant professor of sociology, has had his article, “Understanding Critical Race Theory as a Framework in Higher Educational Research,” accepted for publication in the British Journal of Sociology of Education. In addition, his co-authored article, with Yingyi Ma, titled “Which is More Consequential for Income Disparity: Fields of Study or Institutional Selectivity? — An Investigation on Gender Pay Gap among Recent College Graduates,” was accepted for publication in Review of Higher Education, the flagship journal of Association for the Study of Higher Education.
Jaroslava Prihodova
Jaroslava Prihodova, Dowd Gallery, opened her solo exhibition titled “Out of Objectivity,” on view from April 4 to 29 at The Elsie B. Rosefsky Memorial Art Gallery, Binghamton University. The exhibition includes small objects, jewelry and sculptures produced in the last few years. She will deliver her Artist’s Talk among her works at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8.
Ben Wodi
Ben Wodi, Health Department, spent four weeks partnering with public health professionals at the University of Port Harcourt and the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board in Nigeria to assess the implementation of the United Nation’s 2000 Millennium Development Goals 4, 5 and 6, as well as prospects of achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 3 for health and wellness throughout the state. Lessons learned will guide programs aimed at reducing morbidity/mortality from preventable diseases in the sub-Saharan nation of Nigeria. As the Principal Investigator, Wodi has established a team in the state that will continue the research initiative.

Jeffery Swartwood
Jeffery Swartwood, Psychology Department, recently had his college textbook titled Educational Psychology published by BVT Publishing. The textbook covers traditional topics in the field, but adds a unique interdisciplinary perspective and expanded coverage for special learning needs.
Will Montgomery
Will Montgomery, Communications Office, received the SUNY Council for University Advancement (SUNYCUAD) Judges’ Citation for Excellence in Photography/Individual Photograph for the Pan African Student Association Fashion Show. The photo, taken March 7, 2020 in Corey Union, is a runway shot of one of the many fashions designed and produced by students striving to raise awareness about African cultural heritage around the world. Montgomery covers campus events for the Communications Office’s social media accounts and university news services.
