Richard Kendrick, Institute for Civic Engagement and Sociology/Anthropology Department, contributed the lead story that will appear on the front page of the Bringing Theory to Practice Winter 2014 Newsletter, a national publication mailed to more than 40,000 subscribers. His article spotlights SUNY Cortland’s ability to create a campus culture of engaged learning with Bringing Theory to Practice grants.

Evan Faulkenbury, History Department, had a peer-reviewed article published in the Journal of African American History. It is titled “‘An Uncommon Meeting of Minds’: The Council for United Civil Rights Leadership in the Black Freedom Struggle, 1963-1967.”
Kathleen A. Lawrence
Kathleen A. Lawrence, Communication and Media Studies Department, had seven poems published recently. Her poem ‘Catholic School” was published by Highland Park Poetry in their Winter 2019 Muses’ Gallery. Her speculative poem “Not Tonight” was published by Star*Line (Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association) in January. Four poems appeared in Altered Reality Magazine: “The Conjunction: Jupiter Pursues Venus,” “Things That Go Bump & Smile In The Night,” “Brunch, Spaceship Side” and “Atopic Catastrophic.” Her poem “Zombie Love” was published in a special edition of The Cicada’s Cry: A Micro-Zine of Haiku Poetry (based on a Halloween theme) in Fall 2018.
Ute Ritz-Deutch
Ute Ritz-Deutch, History Department, was presented with the “Amnesty International Keeper of the Flame Activism Award” for the northeast region. At the annual regional conference, which took place on Nov. 15 in Providence, Rhode Island, she also led a workshop on “How to create a Human Rights Podcast.” She hosts a weekly one-hour talk radio show on WRFI community radio in Ithaca, N.Y., called “The Human Rights and Social Justice Program.” The award was partly based on that. She has more than 260 podcasts on Soundcloud.

Bryanne Bellovary, Erik Lind and James Hokanson, Kinesiology Department, co-authored two research posters with senior exercise science majors Lauren Roberts and Jacqueline Santaniello. Roberts presented the posters at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference within the American College of Sport Medicine, held Nov. 5 and 6 in Harrisburg, Pa. The poster titles are: “Heart Rate Responses to Three Unweighted Conditions on an Alter-G® Treadmill” and “Arterial Blood Pressure Responses Reflect Differences in Alter-G® Treadmill Chamber Pressure in College Age Participants.”
